Morning Lovers, it’s Sunday, the first day in September and this week will make it 1month at my job.

If you follow my Instagram page, you’ll understand that this job was my August testimony .

I’ve decided do a little throwback and share with you the interview process

Depressed about the lack of employment, I sat at my friends’ who I’ll refer to as E, and we were talking about how I don’t understand why I’ve not gotten a job after two months.

She was trying to encourage me that something good is coming when my phone rang.

The lady at the other end said she was calling from an I.T company and their Toronto office forwarded my resume to the head office in Edmonton .

I shrugged off the idea that it was a scam at the mention that they do have a physical space here in Toronto ( check previous post about the potential job scam I almost fell victim of).

That first phone interview was a mess let me tell you.

I didn’t remember sending my resume to this company ( One of the aftermath of just clicking apply on indeed), I’ve never worked in this Industry before so I didn’t even know what role it was I applied for, so I ended up asking my interviewer what the role was about .

She was kind enough to explain the job description to me and after a couple of laughs, she said she’s going to send me the link to a personality assessment test and once I’m done she’ll call me to schedule a face to face interview.

I wasn’t expecting a phone call the next day.

I was at the fabric store downtown when the lady called and asked if I’ll love to come in for an interview the next day.

Still at E’s apartment, I had no interview clothes as I only brought summer casuals, but the fear of losing the opportunity made me say yes.

We had to find something that fits in E’s wardrobe and I ended up wearing my dressy-sandal to the interview.

I got in and to say the least, the office was very “techy” , the space was beautiful to say the least and I said a word of prayer to God.

“This isn’t another lesson right, this job is mine. Amen”

I met with the manager and we had the lady on the phone on video call. I was scared to begin with, but they had so much warmth and were so calm with me that I ended up relaxing and joking about how my five years plan was to becoming the head of H.R for their organization.

I was 5mins away from the office, waiting for my bus and chatting with E about how my interview went alright and I feel positive about getting the job when my phone rang.

It was the lady from the office.

My heart skipped numerous beats.

I picked up the call and the Lady said

Hi .........., we really loved you personality and will be very happy to have you on our team. Congratulations . We are looking at you starting right away , so we will send you the necessary documentation and if you could please send them back as soon as you can.......”

My eyes were filled with tears. After almost 3 months of searching frantically for a job, I got one within 3 days.

Fear of jinxing didn’t make me share with my family until I got my offer letter.

This job is a Client Support Coordinator role for an I.T company ( not in the fashion field as I wanted) but it was exactly what I wanted and prayed for in terms of benefits.

I’ll be building my fashion empire on the side while I build a career using my B.A.

I asked someone in the industry the chances I could get paid the salary I was offered considering my experience and he said if I do get the job, I am lucky. Little did he know I already got the job.

So far, so good, I’ve gotten positive feedbacks from my manager and the team lead on how effective I am in my new role. According to them , i’m the second person to hold this position and I’m doing great.
